Prior to this fixture, Wyrley had not lost a league game for eight games over a period of more than five months. However, that run was to come to an end against an accomplished Silverdale side who had dropped only 4 points in 13 games prior to this encounter. It had been Wyrley who had punctured Silverdale's 100% record a month before with a battling display, but that game was a long way from the performance that Wyrley put in this return game.
Wyrley seemed to take a while to get going and found themselves a goal behind within 15 minutes when a mix-up between Jason Dennerley and Mark Biddulph in the Wyrley goal allowed Silverdale's Ashley Griffiths to sneak in between them to prod the ball home.
The goal stung Wyrley into life and they rallied to create a number of openings with some neat football together with several corners but found themselves unable to create any real openings. However, Wyrley's revival was brought to an abrupt halt when they conceded two further goals in quick succession.
On 35 minutes, Silverdale extended their lead with a quickly taken free-kick which caught Wyrley napping when the ball was passed through to Theo York who made no mistake from 10 yards. Then five minutes later, Silverdale put themselves firmly in the driving seat when a long-range shot from Silverdale's Ashley Griffiths found its way under Mark Biddulph's body in the Wyrley goal.
Half-time: Wyrley 0 - Silverdale 3
Wyrley looked generally more composed in the second period but were unable to put the Silverdale defence under any sustained pressure.
Wyrley's best chance came on 57 minutes when Jaffa headed the ball against the post from a Simon Casserley free-kick following a foul on Matthew Anstey.
Silverdale had chances of their own including hitting the Wyrley woodwork late in the game, but overall the second period proved to be a fairly even contest.
Full-time: Wyrley 0 - Silverdale 3
