Jaffa Mayer made an explosive start to this game when he put Wyrley ahead after only 15 seconds when he charged down a defender's clearance then hit the ball hard, high and early from 25 yards over the despairing Silverdale keeper and into the back of the net to give Wyrley a goal start.
Silverdale responded within 5 minutes with a goal from a free kick which was headed into the Wyrley net from close range to make the score 1-1.
Wyrley almost immediately re-established their lead when a stinging shot from Jaffa was parried by the Silverdale keeper. On ten minutes, Todd Wootton pulled off an excellent tackle to deny Silverdale an opportunity on goal; but within a minute, Wyrley were punished for poor marking at a corner from an unchallenged header to put Silverdale 2-1 ahead.
Both teams continued to create chances. On 15 minutes, Jaffa put over an excellent cross from the right which found noone in the box to meet it. Mark Biddulph was called into action at the other end with some sound handling from well-struck shots.
Despite the midfield being unable to establish their rythmn, the Wyrley back four of Luke Brown, Jason Dennerley, Todd Wootton and Adam Nicholls prevented Silverdale extending their lead with some solid defending and good teamwork. Nevertheless, Wyrley went into the half-time interval feeling that they could have done better.
Half-time: Silverdale 2 - Wyrley 1
After the interval, Thomas Evans came on for the injured Jaffa when he was forced to retire from the game after being injured in a late tackle for which the Silverdale player received a booking just before the half-time.
The second half saw Wyrley take to the field with a renewed determination and within 10 minutes of the restart had created more than enough chances to have put themselves ahead. Firstly, Matthew Anstey robbed a Silverdale defender of possession but shot too soon and too weakly to test the Silverdale keeper.
Then a Wyrley attack saw an extraordinary sequence of events unfold in front of the Silverdale goal where a succession of shots from Richard Bullock, Matthew Grendon and Simon Casserley were parried by the Silverdale keeper before the ball eventually went wide for a goal-kick.
Thomas Evans made his presence felt with some good challenges and some excellent distribution - his flicked-on header from a Matthew Anstey cross took the ball into the path of Matthew Grendon who took the ball on into the penalty area but couldn't get the ball out from under his feet.
At the back, Wyrley rarely looked troubled during the second half with the combination ofTodd Wootton's pace and Jason Dennerley's interceptions being more than a match for the pace and movement of the Silverdale attack. In addition, Silverdale's incursions down the flanks were kept to a minimum by the hard work of Luke Moseley and Adam Nicholls supported by the wide midfield men.
Then, on 65 minutes and just when it was beginning to look as though Wyrley might get no reward for all their enterprise, Simon Casserley got the equalising goal that Wyrley's hard work deserved with a spectacular volley from outside the penalty box similar to Ronaldinho's goal for Brazil against England in the world cup. The ball sailed high into the air and dropped at the base of the far goalpost before ricocheting across the goal behind the stranded Silverdale keeper and into the net.
Wyrley had more work to do to earn their point as Mark Biddulph pulled off a spectacular one-handed parry which was followed up by a clearance by Luke Moseley to deny Silverdale a goal in the dying minutes and give Wyrley their third draw against Silverdale from their last three meetings.
