Whether it was the change in routine caused by the move to a new home venue, or the after effects of a change in personnel on the pitch, but Wyrley were unable to establish their usual rythmn in a game in which each team held the lead for equal amounts of time.
It was Wyrley who took the lead through Jordan Clarke after just ten minutes when he was put through on the left. His first shot was well saved by Andrew Poole in the Park Hill goal but Jordan scored at the second attempt after Matthew Anstey robbed the Park Hill defender who had attempted to clear.
Over the next twenty minutes, Wyrley had a succession of chances to put themselves in the driving seat. On thirteen minutes, Matthew Anstey miscontrolled the ball after being put through on goal; then Jordan Clarke put just wide across the face of goal from a Simon Casserley free kick after Matthew Grendon was fouled; then Jordan Clarke again headed across the goal from a Matthew Grendon cross.
Both teams created plenty of goal-scoring opportunities in the first half, but it was Wyrley who saw most of their chances squandered or ruled offside. On 35 minutes, Park Hill made Wyrley rue these early missed chances when they drew themselves level after Richard Earp put the ball away from close range from a cross from the left hand side after Mark Biddulph had saved the initial shot.
Half-time: Wyrley 1 - Park Hill 1
Both teams went into the second half determined to establish a lead. Firstly, Thomas Evans was denied by excellent work by Andrew Poole in the Park Hill goal to clear the ball; then Mark Biddulph in the Wyrley goal and Luke Brown did their bit to deny Park Hill a clear opportunity.
It was Wyrley who made the breakthrough on 46 minutes when Matthew Anstey - through on goal and under pressure from a Park Hill defender - curled the ball just inside the post to make the score 2-1.
Within two minutes, Park Hill were back on level terms from a well-taken volley on the edge of the area.
On 52 minutes, it was Park Hill's turn to take the lead with a free header from a corner, only for Wyrley to equalise on the hour mark when Thomas Evans rounded the keeper and slotted home after timing his run to perfection to beat the offside trap.
However, Wyrley's good work was undone within three minutes when for the second time Wyrley's slack marking at a corner allowed Park Hill to draw themselves level with a goal at the far post.
The nail in Wyrley's coffin was driven in from the penalty spot on the 68th minute after Jason Dennerley was harshly adjudged to have handled the ball from a close-range cross.
The game was entertaining because of the number of goals, but the players and spectators left the field feeling that the team should have performed better.
Wyrley's seemed uncharacteristically unsure of themselves throughout the game, and while being obviously disappointed at having lost the game, the lessons of the game were that a failure to take chances in the first half; an out-of-sorts midfield, and a lack of organisation at corners had cost Wyrley three points.
