Match Report

Park Hill Boys started the game bottom of the division having had the misfortune to open the season playing the top three sides. Wyrley started the day in fourth place.

Park Hill started strongly with a direct approach to goal. The Wyrley defence soaked up the early pressure without allowing the opposition any clear-cut chances. Within 15 minutes Wyrley were two goals up. Matthew Grendon received the ball from Jordan Clarke, created some space for the shot and fired home. One minute later, Jordan Clarke latched onto a through ball from Adam Chamberlain, kept his head and scored Wyrley's second.

Wyrley continued to work extremely hard in the cold, wet and ever-darkening conditions. Matthew Anstey, Jason Dennerley and Adam Chamberlain in particular ensured that Park Hill had little time on the ball. Possession was often given away cheaply by both sides in the difficult conditions but Wyrley worked hard to get the ball back when they lost it.

On 24 minutes Wyrley extended their lead after Jordan Clarke robbed a Park Hill defender of the ball close to the Park Hill bye-line. He unselfishly passed the ball to Matthew Grendon who scored from close-range.

Continued hard-work by the Wyrley defence and midfield was rewarded with Wyrley's fourth goal within 5 minutes of the break when Jason Dennerley received the ball from Adam Chamberlain. He advanced into the Park Hill penalty area. Good running from the Wyrley front men dragged defenders out of position creating space for Jason to score his first ever goal for Wyrley Juniors from 15 yards.

Half-time: Park Hill 0 - Wyrley 4

Park Hill started the second half in lively fashion and rattled the Wyrley crossbar after 6 minutes.

5 minutes into the second half, Anthony Crump was brought on at left-back to replace Shaun Nicholls who was nursing a leg injury with Adam Nicholls moving to play on the left wing. 10 minutes later, Todd Wootton replaced Adam Chamberlain on the right-wing who had worked tirelessly in Wyrley's cause.

Wyrley looked increasingly comfortable as the game wore on and seemed able to put together more flowing moves - their semi-luminescent lime green kit enabling them to pick each other out in the enfolding darkness.

On 60 minutes, Wyrley scored their fifth and final goal when Jordan Clarke was put through wide on the left with an defence-splitting pass from Matthew Anstey. Jordan still had plenty to do but finished confidently with the defender closing in.

This result was a particularly good all-round performance from Wyrley - from the movement and brace of goals scored by the strikers Matthew Grendon and Jordan Clarke; the central defence of Alex Hartshorn and Matthew Worsey who afforded solid protection to Simon Casserley in the Wyrley goal; the full-backs of Adam Nicholls, Luke Moseley and Anthony Crump who combined well with the midfield and stifled the attacks of the Park Hill wide men; the midfield of Matthew Anstey and Jason Dennerley who denied Park Hill space and maintained possession; and Wyrley's own wide midfielders of Adam Chamberlain, Shaun Nicholls and Todd Wootton who protected their full-backs and provided pace and width to the Wyrley attack.
