Haywood/Rugeley Hornets vs. Wyrley Juniors

Sun 20th Aug: Wyrley played a pre-season friendly fixture against a combined Haywood Hornets/Rugeley Hornets  team. Despite a spirited and hard-working performance in very warm weather, Wyrley suffered a heavy defeat against a team put together mainly from a Rugeley Hornets team who compete in the top division of the mid-Staffordshire league.

The first half was fairly even with both teams able to point to several goalmouth chances. Had Wyrley been able to capitalise on their chances up-front, they could have gone in at half-time level or ahead. However, in the second half Wyrley were unable to sustain the momentum that they had achieved towards the end of the first-half and found themselves vulnerable to the Hornets counter-attacks

A post-match penalty shoot-out finished Hornets 7 Wyrley 4. Wyrley's penalties were scored by Shaun Nicholls, Adam Chamberlain, Anthony Crump & Luke Moseley, with Mark Biddulph making some fine saves.
