Wyrley made the mistake of underestimating the opposition for the second fixture in a row when they were beaten by a Caldmore Lions who had won only one game all season and who showed greater commitment and spirit.
Further disruption to Wyrley's season had occurred as a fresult of the cancellation of their fixture the week before but there could be no excuses for this lacklustre performance against a team that Wyrley should have beaten with ease.
Caldmore went ahead early in the game and from that point on Wyrley never looked likely to gain the lead.
Matthew Anstey kept Wyrley in the game when he scored after creating space for a shot on the edge of the opposition penalty area - however it was a very depressed Wyrley team who made their way to the touchline for the half-time team talk.
Half-time: Caldmore 3 - Wyrley 1
Wyrley started to play much better in the second period and managed to get themselves back into the game. Carl Gough reverted to his usual midfield position and created problems running at the Caldmore defence from deep positions. It was from one of such moves that Carl scored Wyrley's second goal from a tight angle high into the Caldmore net.
However, just when it looked as though Wyrley might be able to get themselves back on level terms, Caldmore scored a goal when the ball was crashed home from the box following a corner to make the score 4-2.
The continued pressure from Wyrley forced the Caldmore defence to play increasingly deeper in their own half but Wyrley were unable to capitalise due to poor finishing. A scramble in the penalty box lead to a Caldmore defender handling the ball on the ground and Shaun Nicholls dispatched the ensuing penalty.
Wyrley could point to another penalty decision that should have gone their way when Matthew Grendon was floored by a clumsy challenge from the Caldmore keeper, but Caldmore themselves had some justification for a penalty when Todd Wootton clipped the heels of one of the Caldmore strikers when chasing back.
