This was a six-pointer game for Wyrley between third and fourth in the division with Wyrley looking to put 6 points between themselves and Brownhills Colts. However, within twenty-five minutes the game was effectively over as an out-of-sorts Wyrley were overrun by a Brownhills team who were stronger, quicker and more determined on the day.
Wyrley came under pressure from the Brownhills attack early in the game with Mark Biddulph in the Wyrley goal making a good save within 2 minutes. Within 8 minutes, Brownhills were ahead from their impressive #11 who took his shot early and accurately.
Brownhills extended their lead on 12 and 14 minutes with the Wyrley defence struggling to cope with the pace and power of the Brownhills attack.
Heroic defending by Alex Hartshorn stemmed the tide on 15 minutes when he chased back to clear the ball from his own goal-line.
Brownhills went into the break 5-0 up over a Wyrley team who had battled bravely but had failed to make headway.
Half-time: Brownhills 5 - Wyrley 0
The rout continued in the second half with Brownhills continuing to score albeit at a slightly slower rate. Within a few minutes Brownhills were six goals up.
Wyrley made substitutions with Edward Marrocco replacing the beleaguered Anthony Crump at full back; and Shaun Nicholls replacing the isolated Jordan Clarke in the Wyrley attack.
Wyrley did start to come into the game more in the second half with the midfield linking more effectively with the wide midfield players to pose some threat to the Brownhills goal.
15 minutes into the second half, Shaun Nicholls reaffirmed his super-sub epithet and lifted the gloom for Wyrley with a sweetly executed goal - lobbing the Brownhills keeper from 20 yards - and bringing his tally for the season to five in all competitions.
However, Brownhills continued to dominate the game throughout the second half - particularly going forward. For their part, Wyrley did not give up and showed admirable fortitude in the face of a heavy defeat.
