Wyrley went into this game with a different look to their usual midfield line-up with Luke Moseley replacing Adam Chamberlain on the right-hand side of midfield and Jordan Clarke playing wide on the left. Todd Wootton stepped in to the full-back position.

The Jones Lane pitch was heavy with long grass which worked against Wyrley's usual passing game. However, Wyrley made a lively start and were the better team for the first half-an-hour. Brownhills struggled get going against an eager Wyrley team who were quicker and more hungry for the ball.

Wyrley survived an early scare when Todd Wootton was caught in possession, however Simon Casserley in the Wyrley goal pulled off the first of several cool saves to deny the advancing Brownhills striker.

On 10 minutes, Wyrley should have gone ahead following excellent approach play between Matthew Grendon and Jordan Clarke which led to a cross which fell at the feet of Luke Moseley who blasted over from 6 yards. A similar move later in the half saw Wyrley unable to convert a cross from Matthew Anstey across the face of the Brownhills goal.

Wyrley's defence matched Brownhills' physical approach with Adam Nicholls in particular putting in some crunching tackles to break up the Brownhills attacks. However, Brownhills' pace up front combined with their simple, direct approach became an increasingly effective threat as the half wore on.

Simon Casserley stood up well when one-on-one with the advancing Brownhills #11 and then Todd Wootton prodded the ball against his own post and out for a corner when chasing back in similar circumstances.

On 25 minutes, Brownhills finally got their reward from a ball over the top of the defence which led to them going a goal ahead. On the half-hour, they added to their tally and went into the half-time interval with a flattering two goal lead.

Adam Chamberlain replaced Shaun Nicholls up front at half-time in an attempt to bring some pace to the Wyrley attack. However, the heavy pitch and some more determined work by the Brownhills defence and midfield saw Wyrley's chances on goal reduced to long-range attempts and half-chances.

The game slowed in the second half as legs became increasingly tired as a result of the poor condition of the pitch.

Jordan Clarke managed to create a good opportunity on the left which resulted in a cross but Luke Moseley and Matthew Grendon were unable to meet the ball as it flew across the front of the Brownhills' six-yard box.
