Each of the teams lining up for this encounter were aware that the results so far this season pointed to this game being closely fought - and so it proved.
Wyrley came under some early pressure from the Bentley attack whose pace, control and power proved to be a thorn in their side all afternoon. Nevertheless, Wyrley stuck at their task and responded in lively fashion after 5 minutes with a goal from Shaun Nicholls who struck the ball sweetly high into the Bentley goal from the edge of the area following a corner.
Bentley's work rate got its reward with a goal 3 minutes later from an attack down the left. The speed of the Bentley forwards continued to test the Wyrley defence. On 20 minutes, Mark Biddulph in the Wyrley goal made his first telling contribution of the afternoon when he robbed Bentley of the chance to go ahead when he stood up well to block a shot from the Bentley #10 who was through on goal.
This scare stung Wyrley into life. Adam Nicholls fed Carl Gough down the left who executed a perfect cross from the bye-line into the path of Matthew Grendon who slid in to score inside the 6-yard box. Further Wyrley pressure led to a Bentley goal-line clearance from a corner.
Bentley's strong running got them back into the game close to half-time when the Wyrley defence were beaten by a good run down the right. The shot cannoned off Mark Biddulph's body and ricocheted off Alex Hartshorn into his own net.

Simon Casserley was brought on for his debut appearance replacing Shaun Nicholls at half time in the Wyrley midfield.
Bentley continued the second half as they started the first with a direct assault on the Wyrley goal. Wyrley rode their luck as a shot rattled the Wyrley crossbar with the striker through on goal.
Wyrley went ahead again 10 minutes into the second half when Jordan Clarke received the ball in space on the left-hand side. His accurate pass into the box was met by Matthew Grendon for his second and Wyrley's third of the game.
Within two minutes, Bentley were back on level terms when the ball squirmed underneath Mark Biddulph's body from a long-range shot.
On 49 minutes, Wyrley were awarded a penalty when Jordan Clarke was up-ended just inside the Bentley penalty area. Jordan's shot hit the post and Wyrley failed to capitalise on the rebound.
The work-rate of the Wyrley midfield including Adam Chamberlain and Carl Gough gave Bentley midfield little time on the ball. Luke Moseley combined well on the right with Adam Chamberlain whose resulting shot flashed across the face of the goal.
On 55 minutes, Matthew Anstey and Simon Casserley combined well in the middle. Simon's through-ball released Matthew Grendon who scored his third goal of the game.
Alex Hartshorn and Jason Dennerley at the heart of the Wyrley defence got increasingly to terms with the movement and speed of the Bentley attack as the game wore on.
Wyrley were never behind in this game and yet were unable to establish a 2-goal cushion until the dying minutes. Carl Gough's pace had unsettled Bentley all afternoon. He ran the length of the pitch from deep within his own half following a Bentley corner. He slotted the ball through to Jordan Clarke who despatched the ball beyond the grasp of the Bentley keeper.
